DAY 18: Reenard to Murreagh (Ring of Kerry: Part 1)

I always promised myself that I’d do the ring of Kerry properly, which means sticking to the track.
Until now I’ve stuck to the coast, mainly to see the Skelligs and the beautiful coastline, but most of the Ring is inland.  I’ll be backtracking over part of my journey, but I want to make certain I see the entire everything.  Apparently, he better views are to be had by driving counter-clockwise (I've been making my way clockwise around the country).  The leisurely tour of the Ring of Kerry begins here...

Leaving Ferry View Bed and Breakfast, Reenard, Kerry.

Wearing a high visibility vest at Garranearagh, Kerry.

Garranearagh, looking at Valentia Island.

Nearly all of the roadsigns for the Ring are geared towards an anti-clockwise journey.  It's refreshing to be able to see them.

Ohermon.

Lahrahan South.

Kilcoman looking up at Foilclogh.

...and photo 2.

Wildflowers?

At Derreen looking towards Knocknasjereighta.  That's right, you heard me... Knocknasjereighta.

Aghaturbid.

There's not getting over the grandness of the landscape.

Aghatubrid.

Heading for Waterville.

Roadside shrine at Aghatubrid.

I was simultaneously thrilled and bemused to see the sign.  'An Ghaeltacht' means that we're entering an Irish (Gaeltacht) speaking region... old Ireland.  But there has to be a sign to warn you?

I like this just because it looks like the house has put there (Tullig) by some great hand, yard and all.

At Garryglass looking at Dromond.

Still on the right track at Farrannahow.

More derelict houses.

Bridge over the River Inny, Farranahow.

Looking north and inland.

Doing a spot of fishing on the southern side of the bridge.

More strange things on the fence at Scariff this time.  Is that a brown rabbit?

Slow for church and gas station?

New Chapel Cross: are they white eagles?

The new chapel of New Chapel Cross.

The graveyard... this looks like the centre of town.

Okay... squee!

*rolls eyes* Tourists.

Do they have enough signage?

I tried to see at what was written on the stone to the left of the solstice festival sign, but I couldn't get a good look.

My destination for the night.

I'm going straight ahead.

Heading into Murreagh along Cliff Road.

Smugglers Inn dead ahead.

Oooh, free WiFi!

And free tapas with drinks!

And a beer garden!  I've died and gone to heaven!
